Role Purpose:
We are seeking an assistant Development Manager at either graduate or apprentice level. This role will focus on urban regeneration projects and provide exposure across the full spectrum of property development, from initial feasibility studies to the delivery of transformative residential schemes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on nationally significant projects, contributing to innovative regeneration and placemaking efforts across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing and delivering developments from inception through to completion and occupation.
• Shape project vision to align with the client’s purpose-led values and commercial business plan objectives.
• Assist in the preparation of financial development appraisals to assess project viability and financial performance.
• Oversee design process, preparing project briefs, attending design team and site meetings, and liaising with consultants and contractors through all RIBA stages.
• Support the Residential Development team in identifying, appraising, and acquiring development sites.
• Work on land assembly, planning negotiations, and statutory agreements.
• Conduct site visits, inspections, and valuations as needed.
• Support in the liaison with building contractors, to negotiate appropriate contract structures and facilitate on site delivery.
• Support in the review of cost plans, cash flows, drawings and site surveys relating to developments.
• Support the finance team through the life cycle of a project, to ensure financial reporting is accurate and reconciliation is up to date.
• Assist the finance team in the procurement of funding for developments.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management and clients.
• Assist with conducting market research, financial viability assessments, and feasibility studies for potential developments.
• Contribute to planning and design phases, collaborating with consultants, architects, and planning authorities.
• Engage in project management activities, including monitoring progress, managing timelines, and liaising with key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with legal teams and other professionals to ensure the successful progression of projects.
• Support in preparing and securing planning consents, working closely with design teams, planning officers, and stakeholders.
• Support in the planning and execution of projects, including monitoring and reporting on progress against budgets, objectives, and timelines.
• Marketing and PR – liaise with internal and external marketing, graphics and PR teams to ensure the scheme achieves maximum positive exposure, profile and sales.
• Other duties as required in the development process.
Qualifications:
Degree in Real Estate, Building, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or a related field.
Either working towards or having recently attained professional qualifications (MRICS preferred).
Experience:
• Management of budget.
• Prior management of a project, whether as the lead or an assistant.
• Some level of experience managing consultants as part of a team.
• Liaison with and monitoring of build contractors and on site work.
Knowledge:
• Good understanding of the UK planning system, property development process and RIBA stages.
• Good knowledge of building and construction methodologies.
• An understanding, at any level, of development funding mechanisms.
Skills:
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and manage relationships with stakeholders.
• Proactive, adaptable and able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• A keen eye for detail.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft 365 suite of programmes (Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, Powerpoint etc.)
• Ability to conduct and analyse financial appraisals through Argus or similar.
