As a RICS-regulated practice with an established reputation for technical excellence and long-term client relationships, they continue to invest in their growing Rating team and are looking to recruit ambitious surveyors at all levels, from APC Surveyor through to Director.
The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading independent specialist Business Rates teams. Whether you are recently qualified, an experienced Rating Surveyor or an established Director, you will work across a diverse commercial property portfolio throughout the UK, supported by market-leading data, technology and an experienced technical team.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage Business Rates appeals from instruction through to completion.
- Prepare, submit and negotiate Check, Challenge and Appeal (CCA) cases.
- Analyse rental evidence, valuation data and comparable evidence.
- Negotiate directly with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).
- Advise clients on rating liabilities, reliefs, mitigation opportunities and strategic solutions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce Business Rates liabilities for existing clients.
- Produce high-quality reports and professional client advice.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships through exceptional service.
- Utilise industry-leading property data and technology to identify opportunities and support negotiations.
- Support junior surveyors and contribute to the wider team's development where appropriate.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Degree in Real Estate, Estate Management or a related discipline.
- Experience within Business Rates.
- Strong working knowledge of the Check, Challenge and Appeal (CCA) process.
- Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
- Commercial awareness with a client-focused approach.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Professional Qualifications
- APC candidates working towards MRICS are encouraged to apply.
- MRICS preferred for Chartered Surveyor level and above.
- Extensive Rating experience may be considered in place of chartership for senior appointments.
Level-Specific Expectations
APC Surveyor / Graduate Surveyor
- Working towards APC qualification.
- Assisting with appeals and case preparation.
- Developing technical knowledge across all aspects of Business Rates.
- Enthusiastic with a genuine desire to build a long-term career in Rating.
Surveyor / Senior Surveyor
- Able to independently manage a varied caseload.
- Confident negotiating directly with the VOA.
- Strong understanding of CCA legislation and valuation principles.
- Builds lasting client relationships and contributes to business development opportunities.
Associate Director
- Technical leader within the team.
- Mentors junior surveyors.
- Develops client relationships and generates repeat business.
- Identifies opportunities within existing client portfolios.
Director
- Established reputation within the Rating profession.
- Able to introduce and develop new client relationships.
- Expected to bring client contacts capable of generating future fees.
- Plays a key role in business development, strategic growth and mentoring the wider team.
- Works closely with the leadership team to help shape the future direction of the Rating division.
